2011 Tournament Rules and Regulations
The CRSL Season Rules apply to the tournament as well as the following:
1. Eligible Players:
a. The ‘June’ tournament roster is not restricted to the season roster. The roster is open to players wishing to only play for the tournament.
b. Players can not play for more than one team during the tournament. If this happens, the league has the right to suspend the player from the rest of the tournament and/or determine the outcome of the game upon which the offence was committed. Only with consent from the league executive can a player play for multiple teams.
c. There must be more than 6 players (7 or more) on the field from each team in order to play.
2. Attire:
a. Players playing on one team must have similar coloured tops. The league recommends having numbers on the back of every top but is not mandatory. The league will provide pinnies for teams who are playing against teams with similar coloured tops.
b. Each player must wear shin pads.
c. Soccer shoes must be worn though steel shoes are not permitted.
3. Laws of the Game
a. Games shall be played in accordance with Laws of the Game observed by the O.S.A. and C.S.A.
4. Game Format
a. All 24 teams are guaranteed three round robin games.
b. Round Robin games will comprise of two 25 – minute halves. A 5-minute break at half time will be given to both teams. Each game must end in a win for one team (shootouts will be
used to determine the winner if the regulation game ends in a tie).
c. 15-20 minute breaks will be given between games during the round robin segment.
d. There will be playoffs: semis and finals after the round robin games.
e. Playoff games will be two 25 – minute halves. A 5- minute break at half time will be given to both teams.
f. In the case of a tie, in playoff games, there will be 5 minutes of sudden death overtime in which case the first goal scored will determine the winner . If the score is still tied after this overtime, shootouts will be used to determine the winner. Shootout rules are stated below
g. The winner of each pool will advance to the semi finals, based on the points awarded as well as goal differential. One wildcard team from the division will also advance to the semi finals based on their record during the round robin (if there is a tie between potential wild card teams – below rules go into affect.
5. Shootout Format
a. Only players who were on the field at the end of the game will be permitted to participate in the shootout
b. Each side will choose 5 players to participate in the shootout, of which at least one has to be a female.
c. Each side will then alternate taking penalty shots, the team with the most goals at the end of the 5 shooters will be declared the winner. However, should one side score enough goals that the other team could not beat them, the shootout should be stopped.
d. If after 5 shooters the teams are still tied. Each team will choose another 5 players. The teams will alternate shooters in a sudden death format until a winner has been decided.
6. Tie Breaking Rules
After regulation and if 2 teams are tied (equal points), the standings will be determined by:
1. Winner of a head to head match
2. Most wins
3. Goals scored
4. Goals Allowed
5. Coin toss
If 3 teams or more are tied, the placement will be decided by:
1. Most wins
2. Goals scored
3. Goals Allowed
4. Coin toss
7. Substitutions
a. There is no limit to the number of substitutions that may be made during a game
b. Substitutions may only be made during goal kicks or goals
c. No Substitution will be allowed for a player dismissed from the game by the referee for an offence under Law XII – Fouls and Misconduct of the Laws of the Game
8. Discipline
a. Yellow Cards: any player assessed one yellow card during the tournament will be considered warned. A yellow card in consecutive games suspends a player for the following game.
b. Red Cards: Any player assessed a red card or two yellow cards in the same game during the tournament will be immediately suspended from the rest of the game the offence took place as well as the player’s following game. Should the offence take place in the players final game, the player shall be suspended from their next regular season game. The team must play short for the rest of the game the red card was issued.
9. Determining Group Winners
Each team shall be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and no points for a loss.
At the end of the preliminary round, the group winner shall be the team with the most points. If teams are tied on points, the following criteria shall be used to determine the winner:
a)Most wins
b)Winner of the game between the two teams tied (applies to 2-way ties only)
c)Best goal differential (ie. goals for minus vs goals against)
d)Most goals scored
e)Kicks from the penalty mark (5 players from each team and if no change then sudden death)
